The Mainland Affairs Council is slamming Chinese authorities for saying there
is no such thing as the president of the Republic of China.

The statement comes after China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang
Han earlier this week told reporters at a press briefing in Beijing... that
there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China and there is
no such thing as a Taiwan president.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jia-kun that same day also said
that "the so-called 'president of the R-O-C has long ceased to exist in the
world."

Both of those remarks were made in response to questions concerning the
cancellation of President Lai Ching-te's planned state visit to Eswatini.

Mainland Affairs Council spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh said the comments
reflect Beijing's position that "it does not recognize the existence of the
R-O-C" and that "the R-O-C has no president."
