Police Told to Boost Election Security Measures

Taiwan's government has instructed police to increase security for the
upcoming local elections this November.

The move follows an incident involving former TPP chair Ko Wen-je, who was
accidentally sprayed with pepper spray by an officer during a campaign event
at Feng-Chia Night Market in Taichung.

The Ministry of the Interior says it will not comment on the case, but has
directed the National Police Agency to boost protection for candidates,
campaign offices, and public events ...

... while strengthening risk assessments and intelligence gathering.
