Taiwan tops Singapore trade partner rankings on semiconductor surge

Taiwan became Singapore's largest trading partner last year, with semiconductors driving the relationship on both sides.
Taiwan's representative Tung Chen-yuan said around 85-percent of Taiwan's exports to Singapore are semiconductor-related, with about 80-percent of Singapore's exports to Taiwan in the same sector.
In the first quarter of 2026, Taiwan's exports to Singapore surged nearly 85-percent year-on-year to 17-point-6 billion US dollars.
Singapore's investment in Taiwan also hit a historic high, reaching 4-point-4 billion US dollars -- more than 72-percent of Taiwan's total foreign investment intake for the quarter.
Tung says that jump was largely driven by Micron's Singapore subsidiary converting around 4-point-3 billion US dollars in claims into equity investment in Taiwan.
Singapore's central bank expects the A-I-driven semiconductor boom to keep supporting trade through the rest of the year.
