Doctors Say Lack of Sleep Can Sabotage Weight Loss
Posted on 2026-04-21 18:12:13
Local doctors are warning that not getting enough sleep may lead to weight
gain.

They say research shows people who don't get enough sleep may consume an
extra 200 to 500 calories a day.

Those sleeping just 5.5 hours per night are more likely to snack,
particularly between 7 PM and 7 AM, often choosing high-calorie, high-carb
foods.

Doctors say poor sleep disrupts hormones that control hunger and fullness,
while also affecting the brain's reward system.

This can trigger cravings even when the body doesn't need more energy.

Doctors stress that sleep is just as important as diet and exercise for
weight control.

They recommend getting around 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night.
