Kaohsiung MRT Sees Record Ridership in First Quarter

Kaohsiung MRT is reporting record-high ridership for the first quarter of the year — and is adding an extra weekday after-school service.
The metro operator says average daily ridership across the Red and Orange lines and the light rail system topped 248 thousand passengers — up over 4 percent from the same period a year earlier.
Officials say the increase is being driven by more commuters and students, as well as wider use of discounted monthly passes like TPASS and MeNGo.
The extra train will run from Xiaogang to Gangshan.
Services will run every five to six minutes starting at 4:12 PM, with peak operations beginning 20 minutes earlier to help students get home.
The company says it will continue aligning with city transport policies to provide more punctual and comfortable service as ridership continues to grow.
