Legislature Begins Detailed Review of 2026 National Budget

Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang says the government's proposed 2026
general budget will now be sent to relevant committees for review.

Premier Cho Jung-tai appeared before the Legislature earlier today to deliver
a report and answer lawmakers' questions.

Lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties had already reached a
consensus to move the proposal forward after the briefing.

Under that agreement, the Executive Yuan must submit within six months
proposed amendments to military and police personnel laws, along with broader
protections for civil servants.

Officials say the review will focus on fairness, sound legal and
institutional frameworks, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
