DBS Bank (Taiwan) has pledged 30 million NT to support a new three-year environmental initiative aimed at restoring the Tamsui River ecosystem.
The project aims to transform the Wugu wetlands into northern Taiwan's first internationally recognized wetland.
The initiative will focus on habitat restoration, scientific monitoring, and environmental education.
Efforts include clearing reeds and invasive species, restoring tidal channels, improving water flow, and rebuilding habitats for species such as black-faced spoonbills ... and other protected wetland birds.
Officials say the Tamsui River basin is one of northern Taiwan's key wetland ecosystems, and that long-term, systematic efforts are needed to improve its ecological quality.
The initiative also emphasizes active ecosystem restoration over simply reducing environmental harm.
