Confidence in Taiwan's economy weakened in April, as concerns over Middle East conflicts weighed on public sentiment.
A survey by Cathay Financial released Monday shows more than half of respondents felt the economy had worsened, pushing the economic optimism index sharply into negative territory.
Expectations for the next six months also declined, reflecting growing uncertainty.
Analysts say rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions have made the public more cautious, despite strong domestic economic indicators.
Spending sentiment has also weakened, with fewer people willing to make big purchases or buy durable goods.
At the same time, optimism about the stock market and willingness to take risks both declined.
However, many respondents still expect economic growth this year, though forecasts are more conservative than official estimates.
Inflation concerns remain, with a majority expecting price increases to exceed the central bank's target.
