Artists from around the world are gathering in Hualien for the 2026 Pacific Ocean International Festival of Rock Balancing and Arts.
The festival, officially opening on May 1st, centers on the philosophy of leave-no-trace creation.
County officials say participants must build their works entirely from materials found on site, with each piece required to span at least two meters in diameter.
Finished works must withstand sea winds and tidal forces without any artificial support.
Fifteen teams of competitive stone stacking specialists from across Taiwan began their ten-day challenge this week, and international artists are in residence through April 25th.
The county says the top spot comes with winnings of $80-thousand NT.
Online public voting opens April 28th and 29th, giving the public a chance to weigh in on their favorites.
