US extends pause on Russian oil sanctions

The US Treasury Department has extended a pause of sanctions on Russian oil
shipments to ease shortages from the Iran war.

This is days after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent ruled out such a move.
The administration didn't immediately explain the reversal.

The decision means US sanctions won't apply for 30 days on deliveries of
Russian oil that has been loaded on tankers as of yesterday.


Treasury made a similar decision in March for Russian oil that had been
loaded by March 11.
