P*NTD reverses depreciation on easing of Mideast tensions

Some Taiwan economists are forecasting that the Taiwan dollar will soon stabilize around 31 NT per US dollar ... as a recent trend of depreciation reversed this past week.
The apparent advances in efforts toward resolving the Iran conflict have led to an influx of funds to Taiwan, resulting in rising stock prices and a weaker dollar versus the NT.
The US dollar slipped from 31.7 NT to 31.5 by the end of the week.
Cathay United Bank chief economist Lin Chi-chao (林啟超) forecasts that so long as the Iran conflict doesn't flare up again, the NT should return to around 31 per dollar soon ... but any further strengthening is doubtful given the uncertainty around what US President Donald Trump's next move that might destabilize the global economy might be.
