A senior DPP lawmaker is urging KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen to withdraw an application for public funding tied to her recent trip to China.
Reports said Cheng led a 35-member delegation on a six-day visit to China, with total expenses, including flights, accommodation, and meals, estimated at $4.8 million NT.
Cheng reportedly filed an application for the expenses to the Taiwan Democracy Foundation, which is backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
DPP caucus secretary-general Fan Yun, who also serves as a board member of the foundation, said the funding should not be used for exchanges with China that “lack democracy and human rights."
In response, the Foundation's CEO Liao Da-qi (廖達琪) said given the concerns raised by board members, future applications must be related to democracy and human rights.
