Italian truffle cheese fails to advance past Taiwan border over E. coli

Officials have stopped a shipment of imported truffle cheese from Italy ...
after it tested positive for excessive levels of E. coli bacteria.

The Food and Drug Administration says multiple samples from the batch
exceeded allowable limits, and the shipment will be returned or destroyed.

The importer will also face stricter inspection requirements on future
imports.

In a separate case, two shipments of asparagus from Thailand were found to
contain pesticide residues above legal limits.

Authorities say the importer will now face 100 percent inspection on future
shipments.

Officials say asparagus imports from Thailand remain subject to enhanced
inspection rates of 20 to 50 percent until mid-May.

The food watchdog also flagged other non-compliant imports, including
products from Indonesia, Chile, China, Vietnam and Egypt.
