Former DPP lawmaker Chen Ou Po 陳歐珀 has been sentenced to 16 years in prison on corruption charges.
Chen is accused of taking bribes and embezzling assistant fees, earning 8.7 million NT in illegal profits... according to Taipei prosecutors.
Prosecutors sought 24 years for Chen, but the Taipei District Court sentenced him to 16 years with 6 years' deprivation of civil rights.
Prosecutors say that, from 2012 to 2023, Chen not only used his position as a lawmaker to provie special benefits to private companies but also took millions in fraudulent assistant fees together with his wife.
She was sentenced to 4 and half years in the same case.
The ruling may still be appealed.
Menawhile the DPP says it will discuss next week whether or not to strip Chen of his party membership.
