Taoyuan Reports Rise in Illegal Food Advertisements
Posted on 2026-04-09 18:53:14
Authorities in Taoyuan report a sharp rise in illegal food advertisements,
with most violations occurring on online platforms.

The city's Department of Public Health says it identified 611 illegal food
ads in 2025, a 62 percent increase from the previous year.

Of those, nearly 80 percent were found on internet platforms.

Officials say individual sellers account for the majority of violations,
making up about 61 percent of cases.

Common misleading claims include weight loss effects, skin improvement, and
boosting metabolism, with some even falsely suggesting medical efficacy.

Authorities warn that such advertisements can face fines of up to $4 million
NT, or up to $5 million NT if medical claims are involved.

They also caution that lending e-commerce accounts to others may result in
both parties being held jointly liable.

Officials urge consumers to carefully evaluate ads before making purchases.
