Eight members of the Public Television Service review committee have resigned accusing Culture Minister Li Yuan of violating long-standing practices by failing to consult political parties in advance.
In a public letter sent to Legislative Speaker Han Guo-yu, the members said the list of candidates that Li chose for the P-T-S board was based on personal judgment instead of consultations with the Legislative Yuan.
The members also said Li has violated the spirit of the Public Television Act.
Under such circumstances, they said they were unable to properly fulfill the review process assigned by the Legislature.
The Culture Ministry, however, has urged the reviewers to return to the meeting to select the PTS board in an independent and professional way.
It stressed that the Public Television Act does not require prior cross-party consultation.
The resignations come just days before the scheduled vetting session on April 16th.
