Cabinet to Proceed with Election Commission Appointments Amid Dispute

The Executive Yuan says it will handle Central Election Commission
appointments according to the law .... to ensure election operations run
smoothly ahead of year-end local elections.

The move comes after lawmakers approved four nominees, including the
chairperson, but blocked the three other candidates.

Cabinet officials say they find the rejection of three nominees difficult to
accept, but will submit new candidates to fill the remaining seats.

They're also urging the legislature to quickly exercise its confirmation
powers.

The opposition has criticized the delay in issuing formal appointments —
more than two weeks after legislative approval — calling it a violation of
constitutional order.
