Taiwan Inflation Remains Mild Despite Global Pressures

Taiwan's top statistical office says the nation's consumer price index rose by 1.2 percent in March, suggesting inflation remained unexpectedly subdued.
According to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, the increase came in lower than expected, despite concerns over rising global oil prices linked to the Middle East conflict between the U-S and Iran.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like food and energy, stood at 1.94 percent.
Officials say price increases were driven by higher costs for eating out, meat, rent, utilities, and transportation, including airfare and vehicle maintenance.
However, declines in the prices of vegetables, fruit, vehicles, and some communications equipment helped offset the overall rise.
