Bangladesh is racing to contain a measles-rubella outbreak that has killed more than 100 kids.
Authorities are conducting emergency vaccinations in partnership with the World Health Organization and other internaitonal groups.
The team is working to vaccinate kids between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old in high-risk districts and is expected to expand the plan nationwide starting next month.
Data shows nearly 1000 confirmed cases of measles reported since just 3 weeks ago.
Vaccination is crucial to preventing the spread of measles, but the WHO says 95% of the population has to be vaccinated in order to stop the disease from spreading.
Since the launch of a massive immunization campaign in 1979, Bangladesh has raised the coverage of fully immunized children from just 2% to 81.6%.
But UNICEF warned last year that while Bangladesh has made strong strides to increase immunization coverage, stark disparities persist.
