MOFA: Calls for Denmark to Correct Taiwan Nationality Label
Posted on 2026-04-07 14:07:15

Taiwan has withdrawn certain diplomatic courtesies extended to Danish
representatives in Taipei after Denmark began listing Taiwanese residents'
nationality as China instead of Taiwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the dispute began in 2024 when Denmark
changed the nationality and place of birth categories for Taiwanese expats
from "Taiwan" to "China."

MOFA says today that the current policy does not follow EU diplomatic
practices and could damage the long-term friendship between the two
countries.

Taiwanese diplomats in Denmark say they are still in talks with local
officials to resolve the matter, and the foreign ministry is calling on the
Danish government to fix the labels immediately to reflect the correct
nationality.
