Taipei city to offer $8,000 NT subsidies to scooter owners

Taipei residents are now eligible for more subsidies if they choose to buy electric scooters.
The Taipei city's Department of Environmental Protection says the program builds on last year’s incentives, which offered up to $10,000 NT for new purchases and $22,000 for scrapping two-stroke scooters to buy new ones.
The incentives drew more than 3,500 applications and were considered a success.
The new measure will give an additional $8,000-NT subsidy to buyers of electric scooters this year, with another $8,000 available for households with children under 12.
City officials say with combined subsidies from the Ministries of Environment and Economic Affairs, replacing a two-stroke scooter can qualify for up to $49,300 NT.
