MOA: Rice Vendors to Shoulder Rising Cost of Plastic Packaging

Agriculture officials say rice prices will remain stable despite a sharp increase in the cost of plastic packaging caused by fighting in the Middle East.
Minister of Agriculture Chen Junne-jih told lawmakers today that major rice distributors have promised to absorb the rising costs of vacuum seals and bags.
Lawmakers also expressed concern that some businesses might start hoarding plastic goods as prices rise.
Premier Cho Jung-tai says a special task force is monitoring the prices of daily necessities every week to prevent unfair price hikes.
Cho says he has also asked C-P-C Corporation and Formosa Plastics to ramp up production to help stabilize the market.
For now, the premier says packaging costs are expected to rise by about 20-percent in the short term.
