Knesset to vote on death penalty for West Bank Palestinians convicted anti

Now turning to international news...

The Israeli parliament is set to vote on a bill that would make the death
penalty the default punishment for West Bank Palestinians convicted of what
they're calling "anti-Israel murder."

The final knesset vote is expected before Passover this Wednesday.

It will mark the culmination of a yearslong push by Israel's far right to end
the country's historic opposition to the death penalty...

and will escalate punishment for Palestinians convicted of terror offenses
against Israelis.

If passed, the new legislation will come into effect in 30 days, though
rights groups are expected to petition Israel's highest court against it.

Opponents call the proposal racist and unlikely to deter attacks by
militants/
