Health officials in Taipei are urging parents to check their pantries, after several imported baby snacks sold online failed safety tests for heavy metals.
The Taipei City Department of Health says it recently tested 50 different snacks, including candies and seaweed products, ahead of Children’s Day.
While all 40 items from physical stores passed, four products purchased from online platforms contained excessive levels of lead and cadmium.
Officials say they have traced the products to suppliers in other cities and have ordered them to fix the issues.
Companies that fail to comply could face fines of up to $3 million NT.
