Government investigators have raided nearly a dozen offices of Chinese companies in Taiwan.
The businesses are suspected of illegally recruiting high-tech talent in Taiwan by using fake identities and unauthorized offices.
The Ministry of Justice says the coordinated operation took place mid-to-late March, with searches condcuted at more than 49 locations across Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu.
Investigators say the Chinese firms tried to hide their true origins by posing as Taiwanese or foreign-funded businesses.
Authorities say these unauthorized activities threaten the island's competitive edge in the semiconductor and tech industries.
Prosecutors have questioned 90 people so far as part of the ongoing investigation.
