Survey Finds Appearance Pressures Affect Many Taiwanese Children

New data shows that nearly half of parents in Taiwan have seen their children struggle with negative emotions about their height or appearance.
According to a survey by the Taiwan Precision Child Health Association, 46 percent of parents reported their children feeling upset about their height or appearance.
However, only about 31 percent said they proactively took their children to see a doctor.
The study also found that many parents lack awareness of key growth warning signs, such as growing less than about four centimeters a year.
Experts warn that delaying action could mean missing critical growth periods, potentially affecting physical development, self-confidence, and mental well-being.
They urge parents to monitor growth regularly and seek evaluation as early as possible if concerns arise.
