Nuclear power gets a second look in SEA
Posted on 2026-03-26 17:20:14
Nuclear power is getting a second look in Southeast Asia as the region
prepares for surging demand to power AI data centers.

Analysts also say, the Iran war is adding momentum to nuclear interest and
action.

Countries are reviving nuclear plans that have long been simmering on the
back burner and many have set ambitious targets.

Some, like Malaysia, say that nuclear power can satisfy Southeast Asia's data
center industry without raising carbon emissions...

but safety concerns remain.

The International Energy Agency says, Southeast Asia will account for one
fourth of growth in global energy demand by 2035...

partially due to the more than 2000 data centers across the region.
