Japan has conveyed regrets to China after authorities confirmed the arrest of a Japanese army soldier on suspicion of trespass at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo.
The case surfaced Tuesday after Beijing protested to Tokyo over an alleged break-in at its embassy. It is the latest in an escalating spat between Japan and China.
Police said today that they arrested a 23-year-old member of the Ground Self-Defense Force, or Japan’s army, in the alleged trespassing.
A spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry in Beijing said that the individual who scaled the wall and forced his way into the embassy compound yesterday morning.
Following China's protest and demand for preventive measures, Japan conveyed to China its regret over the case and explained that Japanese ministries will respond appropriately,
