MoENV: Air Quality Improving as Pollution Ranking Drops
Posted on 2026-03-25 17:00:14
Environmental officials say Taiwan’s air quality is improving after a global
report showed the nation’s pollution ranking dropped last year.

The Ministry of Environment says the latest data from the Swiss company IQAir
shows Taiwan is now ranked 71st out of 143 countries for pollution.

The list ranks countries from dirtiest to cleanest, a lower ranking means the
air is getting better.

The report shows that PM2.5 levels fell to an average of 13.3 micrograms per
cubic meter in 2025, improving from over 17 micrograms the year before.

Ministry officials say Taiwan's air is now cleaner than the air in South
Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

Only Japan performed better among nearby Asian countries.
