Former Shaolin Monastery abbot Shi Yongxin (formerly Liu Yingcheng) was indicted today for alleged embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, and bribery in China's Henan province.
This is according to reports by Chinese state media.
Shi is known as the "CEO abbot" because of his highly commercialised management of Shaolin Monastery, having built a vast business empire through international promotion of Shaolin Kung Fu.
But he has also been accused of violating Buddhist principles, including maintaining improper relationships with multiple women and fathering illegitimate children.
Born in 1965, Shi joined the temple in 1981 and was promoted to abbot in 1999.
Last year, the administration of Shaolin Temple acknowledged that he was under investigation for criminal offences.
