Taichung Pedestrian Fatalities Down in Early 2026

Taichung police say they're seeing early signs of improvement in pedestrian
safety this year.

Police say there has only been one traffic-related death in the first two
months of 2026 ... a decrease of three compared to the same period in 2025
...

... while injuries have fallen by over 100 cases.

Authorities revealed the most common causes of fatal pedestrian accidents are
drivers failing to yield at crossings ...

... and pedestrians crossing roads without following traffic signs or
markings.

Officers say they will step up enforcement at high-risk intersections and
during high-risk periods, targeting drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians,
red-light runners and illegal crossings.

The city also plans to use current accident data to identify hotspots for
road engineering improvements.
