The Hsinchu City Government has stopped using water for public fountains and street cleaning as the region enters a "yellow" water alert due to a growing drought.
Officials say starting today, government agencies will use recycled water for fountains, watering plants, or washing the exteriors of buildings.
The city has also formed an emergency drought task force to manage water resources, as the water level of the Touqian River continues to drop.
Authorities are also inspecting drought relief wells to make sure the city has enough backup water if the shortage gets worse.
The city government is urging residents and local businesses to stay alert and practice water-saving habits.
