Lawmaker are expected to allow the Cabinet to sign Letters of Offer and
Acceptance for four U-S weapons systems due to expire this month.

This comes after cross-party talks.... which also directs the Cabinet to
inform the Legislature of the estimated delivery dates for the four systems
and is now expected to be approved at a plenary session.

The weapons systems, which include self-propelled howitzers, Javelin
anti-armor missiles, and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, are a major
part of the 11.1-billion U-S dollar arms package announced by the U-S in
December.

The package also includes Altius-600 and Altius-700M drones, but Letters of
Offer and Acceptance for those systems have yet to be issued.

The Taiwan People's Party, K-M-T and D-P-P caucuses agreed to include the
High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems in the motion after the Ministry of
National Defense said ammunition would be removed from the package if Taiwan
missed a March 26 deadline.

The Letters of Offer and Acceptance for the three other systems have a March
15 deadline.
