Sun Moon Lake Pier Closures Loom as Water Levels Fall

Officials warn that Sun Moon Lake boat services and pier operations may be
suspended if water levels fall below 740 meters.

The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters says the reservoir's
water level is just over 67 percent — about five and a half meters below
full capacity.

According to the headquarters, recent dry weather in the mountains and
ongoing agricultural irrigation downstream have caused levels to steadily
decline.

To maintain visitor safety, authorities have already moved a floating
platform at the Chaowu Pier to a deeper area and closed part of the dock.
