Taipei Over 100 Companies Join Pilot Program for Shorter Hours for Parents
Posted on 2026-03-12 16:07:13
More than 120 companies have joined a new pilot program in Taipei that allows
parents to work shorter hours to care for their children.

The city's Department of Labor says 121 businesses have applied for the
"Childcare Work Hour Reduction" plan since it launched on March 1st.

The program currently benefits 182 employees, and officials say most of the
applicants are small or micro-sized businesses.

Under the plan, parents with children under the age of 12 can reduce their
workday by one hour to drop off or pick up their children, with the city
subsidizing most of the cost to the employer.

Taipei is the first city in Taiwan to test this policy, and officials say
they plan to meet with neighboring local governments soon to share their
results and encourage other cities to start similar programs.
