Traditional reindeer racing has drawn crowds to northern Finland.
Handlers raced behind reindeer on skis for the fastest time this past weekend with about 1000 spectators watching the Sall Reindeer Cup in subfreezing temperatures near the Russian border.
The sport has taken place in Salla since the 1950s, and organizers now run it as a regulated competition with trained male reindeer.
Only the top reindeer reach the premier "hot series" after racing the kilometer-long track in under 1 minute and 20 seconds.
This year, a reindeer named Pompom won the final race.
Reindeer husbandry has been an important part of Scandinavian culture for many decades, especially for the Sami Indigenous people in the far north of the country.
