Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin is dismissing rumors of potential energy shortages, saying Taiwan's natural gas supply for March and April is secure.
Kung says the country needs 22 liquefied natural gas shipments for the two months, and 20 have already been scheduled despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to Kung, the remaining two shipments are still being arranged and are expected to be secured soon.
He also rejected speculation that households could face shortages, noting that residential gas use accounts for less than five percent of total consumption.
With supply expected to remain stable, he says Taiwan will not need to increase power generation from coal-fired plants for now.
Officials say they will continue monitoring global energy markets in the months ahead.
