Black sesame seeds from China fail inspection over excessive cadmium

Taiwan has blocked 1,000 kilograms of black sesame seeds imported from China after tests found cadmium levels twice the legal limit.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, the shipment contained 0.2 milligrams per kilogram of cadmium, and has been ordered returned or destroyed.
It was the second failed inspection in six months for the same importer, which operates the Michelin-recognized KaiKai Dessert brand.
As a result, its sesame imports will now face batch-by-batch inspections.
Separately, authorities also rejected Chilean nectarines and a German dietary supplement found to contain excessive sorbic acid.
The supplement importer will likewise face stricter inspections after repeated violations.
