Tainan Sees Tourism Boom over 228 Holiday Weekend

Tainan saw a tourism boom over the 228 holiday weekend, drawing more than
1.23 million visitors — up over 10 percent from the same period last year.

Historic districts and shopping areas accounted for over 930 thousand visits,
especially in Anping, Xinhua, and Yanshui.

Hotel occupancy topped 90 percent.

Outdoor destinations and museums also proved popular, including the Chimei
Museum's Egypt exhibition.

Officials say crowds were further boosted by a massive fireworks event at the
Luermen Holy Mother Temple, which organizers say drew over one million
attendees ...

... and an international half marathon with more than 25 thousand runners.

With lantern festival events ongoing, authorities say they will tighten
oversight of hotel pricing and hygiene.
