Hours after President Trump ordered all US agencies to stop using Anthropic's AI technology, OpenAI says it has reached an agreement that will allow the use of its AI technologies in classified government work.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been in talks to essentially replace Anthropic in government systems since Wednesday.
The Pentagon had demanded unrestricted access to Anthropic in its classified work, which the company had resisted. A government deadline for cooperation was about to pass yesterday ... with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designating Anthropic a "supply chain risk" and Trump issuing his order to stop using the AI technology.
Altman said in an X post that OpenAI had found a way to work on classified operations without violating core principles against "domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for using force."
