The KMT looks poised to support spending on eight military arms sales totaling NT$350 billion, based on the explicit recommendation of a party think tank.
A KMT think tank report supports the spending on already-announced US sales while also recommending adding language to contracts that would penalize American arms suppliers that delay deliveries.
According to CNA, party insiders say the recommendations still need to be discussed and finalized before a March 6 legislative review.
Some KMT legislators are reportedly in favor of a much bigger special defense budget of NT$800 billion, given media reports of a further US$20 billion in planned US arms sales to Taiwan.
The Executive Yuan is requesting a special defense budget of NT$1.25 trillion.
