Suhua Highway Traffic Smooth

Traffic is moving smoothly on the Suhua Highway today as the 228 Peace
Memorial Day long weekend begins.

While officials expect nearly 10,000 vehicles to head south today, local
hotels report that booking rates are only around 30 percent.



The Highway Bureau’s Eastern Region Branch says about 3,000 vehicles
traveled south by 10 a.m. this morning.

Another 6,000 vehicles are expected to hit the road this afternoon.

To keep traffic moving, the government has banned large trucks weighing over
21 tons from the corridor during certain hours for the next three days.

Buses are also allowed to drive on the shoulders of the Suhua Highway.

Meanwhile, construction work on the Central Cross-Island Highway has stopped
for the holiday, though some traffic controls remain in place.
