Env Groups Call on CPC to Halt LNG Taichung Expansion

Environmental groups are calling on CPC Corporation to halt its liquefied
natural gas expansion project in Taichung to protect the endangered Taiwanese
humpback dolphin.

Eleven conservation groups held a protest today, warning that the massive
land reclamation project will destroy a critical nursery and feeding ground
for the rare dolphins.

CPC held a public meeting in Wuqi today to discuss the fourth phase of its
Taichung plant expansion, and nearly a dozen conservation groups held a
protest, warning that the large land reclamation project will destroy a
critical nursery and feeding ground for the rare dolphins.



Activists say there are fewer than 50 Taiwanese humpback dolphins left in
the world.

The groups are demanding that all development projects in the area be
combined into a single environmental impact assessment.
