KMT Vice Chairman Chang Jung-kung (張榮恭) says a high-level meeting between Party Chair Cheng Li-wun and Chinese leader Xi Jinping is still being coordinated.
Speaking today at a memorial event, Chang said no date has been set yet due to upcoming political events in Beijing and a planned visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to China.
The vice chair says the goal of a potential meeting with Xi Jinping is to pursue cross-strait peace, noting that has been 10 years since a KMT chairperson last visited mainland China.
Under Cheng’s leadership, the party has recently resumed a joint forum between KMT and Communist Party think tanks.
Chang says the KMT hopes to use its communication platforms to increase exchange and reduce instability.
