A special election in England today has become a big test for Prime Minister
Keir Starmer and his struggling Labour Party government.

Voters in northwest England are choosing among Labour, the Greens, and
hard-right Reform UK in a seat Labour has long dominated. Local polling
points to a tight three-way race.

Reform is pushing a hard anti-immigration message and leads national polls,
as the Greens pitch a left-leaning platform, including strong support for
Palestinians.

Some working-class voters who once backed Labour have shifted to Reform,
while the Greens are hoping to win over students and Muslim residents in the
area.

Polls close at 10 p.m., with results early Friday.
