Tens of thousands of commuters will have to wait longer to receive their travel rebates because the central government budget has not yet been approved.
The Highway Bureau announced today that payments for the TPASS 2.0 frequent flyer program, originally scheduled to start today, are now on hold.
The delay affects about 72-thousand people who qualified for rebates in January.
This includes seniors over age 70 who voluntarily gave up their driver's licenses in exchange for travel credit.
The bureau says the total amount for January’s rebates is about $7.7 million NT.
While the money cannot be paid out until the 2026 budget passes, officials say travelers will not lose their benefits.
All boarding records are being saved, and the bureau will announce a new payment schedule once the funds are available.
