President Lai Ching-te says he's willing to deliver a national affairs report at the Legislative Yuan "in accordance with constitutional procedures."
Lai made the statement after a meeting with the heads of the five branches of government at the Presidential Building.
This marked the first time ever that the heads of the five branches have attended such a meeting at the president's invitation.
Present were Premier Zhu Rong-tai, Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu, Acting Judicial Yuan President Hsieh Ming-yang, Examination Yuan President Chou Hung-hsien and Acting Control Yuan President Lee Hung-chun.
Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo says the meeting lasted an hour and a half and they discussed issues including the general budget, U-S tariffs, the Fiscal Equalization Act and arms procurement legislation.
Speaker Han said he invited Lai to personally explain to lawmakers "the current situation of issues everyone is concerned about, and issues the president hopes the legislature can resolve in the next session."
Han said the session would adopt a question-and-answer format, and the Legislative Yuan would "certainly attach special importance" to that.
