MOFA welcomes Japan's renewed call for peace in Taiwan Strait
Posted on 2026-02-20 14:26:14
The Foreign Ministry says peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are a
shared interest of the international community.

The statement follows remarks by Japan's foreign minister who again stressed
the importance of stability across the strait.

MOFA says democracies should keep working together to counter the expansion
of authoritarianism.

It urges countries to stay focused on Taiwan Strait developments and take
concrete steps to help protect security.

The ministry notes Japan has raised the Taiwan Strait issue at multiple major
international meetings in recent months.

It also says Japan has voiced concern to China during high-level talks and
during China's military drills around Taiwan.

Taiwan says it will continue strengthening its self-defense capabilities and
whole-of-society resilience.

The ministry says it will also work closely with partners to support peace,
stability, and prosperity in Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific.
