Taipei blood bank warns of urgent type B and O shortages

The Taipei Blood Centre says there is an urgent shortage in blood stocks as
donor numbers drop with recent temperature swings.

It says Taipei has only about 4 days of blood supply left overall.

Type B is down to 4 days, and type O is at 3 days, near the critical line.

The Taiwan Blood Services Foundation says the national supply is about 5
days, with type O at 4 days.

Officials say more people are sick with colds, while hospitals are using more
blood, so reserves keep falling.

The centre says demand will not drop during the Lunar New Year holiday and
urges eligible people to donate before the break.

It also says the age range for donation expanded to between 16 to 70 since
July of last year, with extra rules for older donors.
