The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rebuked the statement issued by the President of the Oriental Republic supporting the one-China policy.
MOFA says the statement by Uruguay Yamandu Orsi "seriously distorts the facts,” and reiterated that Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other.
MOFA says it strongly disagrees with the Uruguayan government for echoing China’s political position.
President Orsi is visiting China and met Chinese leader Xi Jin-ping today.
The two sides later released a joint statement that included claims that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory”.
MOFA has expressed its strong protest against the Chinese government for continuing to spread malicious rhetoric internationally that undermines Taiwan’s sovereignty.
